Catalog Description:

Miniature or Empire style Hollow Column shelf clock; H. Welton & Co., Terryville, Conn, ca 1839-1845 The case is made like a hollow column, enclosed weight chutes, but only half columns All 3 glasses are original with the old putty. Miniature case is only 28 inches, the mahogany veneer is basically very good, only a couple of small repairs. The top wood door knob probably a replacement. Three-fourths of the backboard is covered with a paper label, about 25% paper loss.The brass movement is called the "Hiram Welton Thirty Hour Miniature Movement", by Roberts & Taylor. It was a 3 arbor train movement later reconfigured by Terry to a 4 arbor train to avoid patent infringements. Good old wood dial, rectangle weights, period hands. Reference-"Eli Terry & The Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. This type of movement is shown on page 339.
