Southern Calendar Clock Company Fashion No. 2

Catalog Description:

Southern Calendar Clock Co., "Fashion No.2", ca 1876. A label on the door indicates the clock was sold, "April 1, 1878". 8 day movement is running just fine, strikes a large brass bell on the hours. The walnut veneer case is 31 inches high and was the general style case used for all the Fashions with Seth Thomas movements. Veneer was discontinued after the No.2 model. Seth Thomas made clock movements and calendar movements for models No.1 thru No.8.The dials have been repainted on the old zinc pans. I would bet the dials have only been off one time, and that was to repaint them. The very small dial screws are original , there are no extra holes. Most screw holes on a clock this old would be wallowed to death. The movement is stamped, "Manuf'd by Seth Thomas Clock Co. Thomaston, Ct. for the Southern Calendar Clock Co. St. Louis, Mo." Full label on the door. Big finial original, 2 smaller ones are replacements. As is typical of this model the veneer is easily chipped on the rolled top and base. Rare is the No.2 with little or no chipping. This is a fine example of this early model. Ly-Calendar, page 283, and Millers "Calendar Clocks", pages 107-109.
