Antique Southern Calendar Clock Company "Fashion No. 2" Model Clock Price Type: auction |

Catalog Description: Southern Calendar Clock Co., St. Louis, Mo., "Fashion No.2", ca 1887. 31 inch walnut veneer case has hardly any veneer chipping on the rounded edges, which is highly unusual. The finials are not original but as good as originals and were stained perfectly to match the case. This case has some of the best walnut graining and finish I have seen on a Fashion. No doubt it was expertly refinished at some time. Like so many of the Fashions from this area of the country, this one was no doubt in one family's home for over 100 years. The dials were never off the case until they were painted. There are the same little screws and screw holes, not wallowed out like clocks that have been traded from one collector to another. Dials were repainted at The Dial House on the original zinc pans. The 8 day movement is running, striking a brass bell on the hours. Movements were made by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. using a large, heavy time movement and a large perpetual calendar movement. The label on the door says the clock was sold and set to running in 1887. About half of the label is remaining. Ly-Calendar, page 283. Millers "Calendar Clocks", pages 107-109. |
