Catalog Description:

Smith & Goodrich, Bristol Conn. Box clock, ca 1850. This company was in business from 1847 to 1852, producing many shelf clocks using the patented Boardman & Wells fusee movement. This movement featured a fusee and spring directly attached to the clock movement frame, thereby eliminating the wooden barrel block formerly required as a spring container. Smith & Goodrich improved on the patent and had a cast iron fixture that held the fusee and spring and which was easily clamped to the brass movement pillars. This clock has a 30 hour, striking movement. The box clock is 15 1/2 inches tall, has the original glass and tablet. The dial is original with some very minor touchup. This is a very collectable clock in great condition.
