Birge Mallory and Company

Catalog Description:

"Birge, Mallory & Co., Bristol, Conn", large column and cornice, ca 1837, "Birge, Mallory & Co., Bristol, Conn", ca 1837, which is the date of formation of the company. They continued selling some movements as Birge, Gilbert. This large column and cornice case is 38 inches high, with carved feet, 3 glasses all probably replaced. One column is missing, has no hands or weights. Pendulum period. Wood dial has stretched, lost some paint, touched up by our phantom dial painter. One good point about the dial, the gold is very good. 8 day, signed movement, the Ives patent strap brass movement same as on clock No.466. Strikes a coil gong. There is a very good label covering the backboard. Feet have been replaced, very little veneer remains on the front, but sides, top, and doors have veneer. A good winter project."The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", Revised Second Edition, by Kenneth D. Roberts. Pages 191-196, Chapter IX.
