Richard Duke

Catalog Description:

Richard Duke, Reproduction Pillar and Scroll, c. 1970's Duke was an expert cabinet maker in the northeast and made this clock in the early 1970's. He signed it on the back, "R. Duke". It is far superior to any reproduction pillar & scroll clocks we have seen. He used the finest woods, veneered it to perfection, and no doubt copied exactly from an original.Where possible he used parts from early clocks, a clean wood movement, a perfect old wood dial, period weights, iron bell, hands, door lock with key, and a beautiful tablet (unsigned) but we will call it contemporary. He even put an old and perfect, Sperry & Shaw label on the backboard. He used a good red putty around both glasses, well done. Now the rest of the clock we'll call contemporary, finials, rollers, and the wood case. Beautifully finished mahogany veneer case is 31 inches high to the finial tips. I know it isn't an 1820's pillar and scroll, but it is every bit as nice. It could sit on my mantle with no excuses having to be made. The clock was expertly made to look just like the early ones.
