Catalog Description:

World Time Clock, ca 1880. From all appearances you would think this movement was a typical 8 day, bell strike, round French movement. Of course, even I know, it has to be a whole lot more complicated, with extra wheels and no telling what else. It is signed, "C.H. Delagrave". He built other World Time Clocks, many were very elaborate and valuable. I saw a picture of one over 6 feet tall. Note that the movement has only 1 winding arbor. You turn the key clockwise to wind both the time and strike springs. The movement is in a black onyx case, 15 inches high, 12 inches wide. It is scalloped around the front, and the edges are rolled. Giving the case the glove test I found only one small chigger bite on the onyx. The back door is brass and glass, front is a French sash, beveled glass. It has the correct pendulum and key. There is a perfect 2 piece porcelain dial. The outer dial ring has 2 ? 12 hour segments, one for night and one for day. The inner dial is the clock time dial with the names of 87 of the worlds cities listed around the outer edge. The outer dial turns as the hands turn, lining up the time with each of the cities. You can tell the time at all 87 cities listed and can tell if it is night or day. Reference: "Mystery, Novelty, & Fantasy Clocks", by Derek Roberts, page 102.
