Catalog Description: French gilt bronze mantle clock, ca 1860-1880. Vines make up the body of the case with leaves and flowers wired to the vines. Porcelain painted flowers are possibly Meisen. Pendulum is the same, leaves, flowers wired to the pendulum stick. Case is arbor shaped, the 4 columns make up the arbor that holds the clock on top. The movement is in an etched, tin can body. Movement is a round French, bell strike, 8 day, outside count wheel. The movement is signed, "Blocquart Boulogne", or something close to that. It is written in a handwritten style and some letters are difficult to make out. French hands but the clock would look sharper with gold hands. White enamel dial with Roman numerals painted to resemble cartouche numerals. The vines are decorated with branches of gold plated bronze wild grapes. It all is connected to a wood base that is covered with blue velvet. That clock and base is resting on a second wood base covered with blue velvet, that a glass dome should rest on. The whole clock, right now is 19 inches high. If you have a dome 17 1/2 inches high, 10 1/2 inches wide, 6 1/2 inches deep, you could complete the clock and probably double the value. |
