Catalog Description: C.1863, L. F. and W. W. Carter, Bristol, Conn, predecessor to Welch Calendar Regulator No. 1, and in very good restored condition. The rosewood and mahogany case has been refinished and the dials repainted with an antique finish. Calendar hands are original, however time and day hands are replaced. Retains original round iron weights. The calendar retains great label of "Lewis" Perpetual Calendar, Manuf'd by E. Burwell", with patent date of Feb 4, 1862 (the earliest Lewis patent). The Carter label came out of the same print shop as the later Welch labels and you will note the similarity in artwork on the label. Lower tablet is original and fabulous, with Union shield. Original rolling pinion movement is complete and sound. Mr. Ly should add this model to his chapter on Carter in the Calendar Clock book. Height 48 inches |
