Germany Shelf Cuckoo

Catalog Description:

C.1915, German, Large Shelf Trumpeter with Cuckoo quarters, in generally good condition, needing re-timing of the strike train and adjustment of the linkage. This is a well made unit with large 3-train movement with heavy springs. The bellows for both cuckoo flutes and both trumpet flutes have been recovered. The intricately carved ivory trumpeter fell off his perch in transit to us, and will need attention. The case itself is a multitude of oak branches and leaves (some minor glue repairs not noticeable), surmounted by a large and well detailed quail in flight. The quarter count wheel was replaced some time ago, but works fine. The clock gives a count of the quarters on the cuckoo side (1-4), and on the hour only follows the cuckoo with 2-note trumpet reports (like petite sonnerie). Has carved bone hands. As with most cuckoos, it is geared for 56 hours of running but will need to be wound daily. Height 31 inches
