Catalog Description:

C.1875, Evans of Birmingham, 2-fusee skeleton clock in the form of Sir Walter Scott's Memorial, on a base and with old glass dome. This frame style was Evan's most popular and skeletons were produced as strikers and timepieces, both large and small and with a variety of escapements. On this particular model, the movement is mounted in the tall vertical part, and the 4 buttresses of the memorial are screwed to the main frame; a couple of screws have been replaced with pins and the buttresses are loose, however this can be corrected by any good mechanic. The hands are later replacements. The original statues of Sir Walter Scott and his dog are intact. The chain fusee movement has been nicely cleaned and is striking the hours on a large cathedral gong; lacquer on dial only has discolored a little. Examples are pictured in Royar-Collard's book titled Skeleton Clocks, (pages 38-39), and also in Robert's book titled British Skeleton Clocks, (pages142-144).
