E Howard and Company Marble Dial Clock, Model 21

Catalog Description:

E. Howard and Co. Boston, "Marble Dial Clock, Model 21" ca 1874. The Model 21 was made in three dial sizes. These large, heavy Italian marble clocks were made for churches, public buildings, and private businesses. Generallywhen they were placed on a wall they stayed there a long time. This signeddial marble clock is about 26 inches; the catalogs call it a 24 inch dialclock. The 8 day movement, large weight, and pendulum are all inside thecase. The extra large weight is compounded by using 3 pulleys around theinside of the case. There is a lever in the bottom to start or stop the pendulum. The numerals are made of wood or some other material, minute markers arebronze. The large solid plate movement is properly signed by E. Howard and Co, clock is running. There was probably a movement change, for whateverreason, as the winding hole was moved one inch. I suppose the movement couldalso have been turned slightly. This model is pictured in all the HowardTrade Books I have, back to 1874. You can also refer to Ly-Clocks, Volume1, page 111; and Ly-American Clocks No. 459.
