Catalog Description: Outstanding English triple chain fusee bracket clock. The elaborately carved oak case is 22" tall and 13.5" wide. There are lions heads carved oneither side of the front above the door. To the left of the door is carved a woman's bust, on the right is a man's bust. Below the busts on each side is a shock of leaves with two pears hanging from them. Below the pears is another shock of leaves with two pinecones and below that, a bunch of grapes. This is all carved over a background of leaves. The case is completely carved on three sides and the top on four sides. The doors have working locks, with keys. The front door has the original beveled glass; the rear door has a largemetal grilled opening with fabric behind it. The sides of the casehave church window shaped openings with wooden fretwork grills and fabric behind them. The case and finish is excellent. The movement is 8 day, large, heavy movement weighs 23 lb., strikes on a large 6-1/2" standing coiled gong, and chimes on either four coiled gongs or eight bells. The movement has a nice original machined brass knob to lock the pendulum in place. The fancy brass dial has a silver chapter ring with heavy carvings applied, the center has fancy filigree. There are three smaller chapter rings, one for chime-silent, one for slow-fast, and one for Westminster chimes or 8 bells. The clock runs and strikes well, is not fussy, and the bells sound great. Inside and out, this clock is as close to perfect as you will find. |
