S Haller

Catalog Description:

German shelf clock, made by "Thomas Haller", a clockmaker in Schwenningen Germany, from 1880 until 1900, when they merged with Junghans. Their trademark "T over H" is on the movement. That would date this clock to the late 1800's as the TH trademark was discontinued after the merger. The movement is 8 day, striking bim-bam on two standing gongs, on the quarter hours, and strikes one hammer on one gong on the hours. This is a very attractive walnut case standing 19-1/2 inches high. There was a lot of brass used on the case, the 4 finials, railing and buttons on the top, ornaments and buttons several places on the front. There are door latches on front and back doors, 4 wood feet, 2 columns in front with some brass and turned bases and capitals. The large brass dial plate has applied ornaments in the corners, a separate brass chapter ring on top of the brass plate, and the inner dial of a rough brass design. The clock is running but would operate better with service. The case also needs some Nu-Life or similar polish.
