Seth Thomas

Catalog Description:

Rare Seth Thomas mantle clock, ca 1892, and so stamped twice on the case back. The 8 day movement, gong, back metal cover, dial, bezel, and hands, are found in any case of this style. The difference is the way the outside was made. I would think it was experimental as I have never seen this style before. The wood case is 15-1/2 inches wide, 10-1/2 inches high, medium brown in color, and almost perfect. I count 7 different designs in the wood, mostly pressed; surely some of the deep grooves were carved. Starting at the top there are large leaves and vines pressed into the wood, then a molding around the top, and another under the top. The middle section is basket weave designs pressed into the wood, then a molding same as under the top, both look carved. Below the dial is yet another pressed or carved design that goes around 3 sides, below that is yet another pressed design of leaves and vines, and onthe very bottom the little dots, or ripple look. There are 4 tiny brass feet.It is not pictured in the Seth Thomas catalogs, however, there are similarcases made with adamantine finish.
