Unknown Shelf Steeple

Catalog Description:

Steeple clock with full label reading, "Patent Spring Brass Clocks, Made and Sold By H. Welton, Agent, Plymouth, Conn." These fusee movements made by Welton could also be fitted with an alarm fitted ona drum between the fusees. This case never had an alarm although the dial was cut for the alarm arbor (below the strike arbor) and the alarm set knob around the hand arbor. We feel the dial is original to this case even with these exceptions. The chips have been painted over and dial restored without a complete repaint. 30 hour movement is very clean, running, and strikes the coil gong hourly. 20 inch mahogany case is near perfect, except for the finial points, and a rub here and there. Original tablet is "View in Rome, Italy". Reference-"Handbook of Clocks Produced by Charles Kirk, Elisha C. Brewster, and Brewster and Ingrahams at Bristol, Connecticut, 1828-1852", by Bill Ultsch and Doug Cowan.
