C and N Jerome

Catalog Description:

C and N Jerome, Bristol, Conn. They were brothers, Chauncey and Noble. This column and cornice case is similar to cases made by several firmsduring this period. This clock is ca 1834-1836. Movement was no doubt made by Joseph Ives or E. C. Brewster, the principal supplier of brass movementsin Bristol. This is an 8 day, rack and snail repeater movement, and is identicalto those made by Ives. The gong base is unusual and holds the coil gong.Note the two small covers over the weight chutes. The label is deterioratingbadly and just enough remaining to identify the clock. Two large iron weights, pendulum, hands, good wood dial, and all period. Two top glasses have original putty, middle has been rebacked, bottom is a new glass. Mahogany veneer case is 37 inches, exceptionally nice, original, only a few small bruises where bumped. Nice ball feet are also original. Reference-The Contributions of JosephIves to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862 by Kenneth D. Roberts, pages147-161.
