Catalog Description: Gothic style shelf cuckoo, miniature size, only 15 inches high. 8 day cast brass movement, enclosed spring barrels, and this is another earlymovement with pinned frames. The brass pendulum slightly resembles a boatanchor and was used on three-note trumpeter clocks as well as some oldercuckoos. The bellows have been restored. The old wood bird is mounted ona block of wood, which indicates the clock is earlier than if it were mountedon a wire. This bird is indicative of birds found on cuckoo clocks around1865-1880. The numerals and one hand are replacements. One of the two carvingson top and the door, are replacements, but the person who restored the clockdid a great job making the pieces appear original to the case. Not signedanywhere but that is not unusual in cuckoo's made in the 17th century. Anyof the intelligent statements made here, we gleaned from Rick Ortenburger'sbook, "Black Forest Clocks". If you like or collect Black Forest Clocks youshould get a copy of his book. |
