Antique German or Germany Shelf Cuckoo Clock Price Type: auction |

Catalog Description: German shelf cuckoo, original and unrestored, except the bellows.I have not seen this movement before and don't see anything close in the reference books. A picture is provided showing the back of the case. Notethe pendulum is similar to the one in No. 205, both rarely seen in this stylecuckoo clocks, usually only in trumpeters. The movement appears to be sawn, not cast. Edges and openings are uneven. The movement is pinned, the styleof the wood bird and how it is mounted, all indicate this clock is ca 1860-1885.No names signed anywhere that I can find. The old carved case is 16-1/2 inchestall, no breaks or repairs are evident anywhere. Roof is fish scale type.Hands may be old, at least they are a match. Numerals have been on some time, but surely replaced in the last 130 years. This is another fine example ofan early shelf cuckoo clock. It came from a large cuckoo collection and isrunning solidly. Rick Ortenburger's book, "Black Forest Clocks", picturesmany cuckoo's similar to this one and will point out many facts to help youdate your cuckoo clocks. |
