Antique New Haven "Register" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: New Haven Clock Co. hanging calendar, "Register", ca 1880. This model was also made in a shelf model. The label on the back ofthe case identifies the clock as being made by, "Jerome and Co.", as doesthe calendar dial. New Haven purchased the bankrupt Jerome firm in 1856 butcontinued to use the Jerome name on their products. The "Register" was firstoffered in 1880 and dropped from their line by 1890. This is a perpetualcalendar model using the B.B.Lewis calendar mechanism. Upper movement is8 day, time only, running and changing the calendar most of the time. I suspectthe connecting link needs adjusting. The 31 inch walnut case is very niceand has the original glass. Other than cleaning and polishing, some callit refinishing, I don't unless it has been stripped. There are so many goodcleaners on the market today that doesn't touch the finish, just the dirtand grime. If anything else has been done to the case it sure is notobvious. Practically a complete label on the back, very nice replaced 8 inchpaper dials that you can buy from the Ithaca Company, and original hands. It is hard to find fault with this 120 year old clock. Ly-Calendar No. 492. |
