Catalog Description: French ebonized boulle shelf clock, ca last half of 17th century. Round French 8 day movement with the rare Brocot escapement, strikes thetypical French brass bell on the half hour and hours, and is running. The movement is signed "A. Brocot and Delettrez, Paris". Without writinga treatise on A. Brocot, suffice it to say the Brocot's were inventors ofunusual escapements and any clock with their name on it means it is unusualand generally a valuable clock. Glazed case is 17+ inches high, well figuredcase of vines and flowers, front inlaid with brass and pearl. 5-1/2 inchbronze machined dial, signed the same as the movement, and delicate Frenchhands. A most uncommon clock for the discriminating collector. |
