Catalog Description: Resch-Gebrueder Uhrenfabrik, Ebensee, Austria, or in English, Resch Brothers Clock factory, selling under the trade name, "Remember", this clock ca 1862-1901. An exceptionally nice 3 weight Vienna clock that has been hanging in my living room for 3 years until we recently played "let's move all the clocks". This one was left without a space to hang. The 8 day grand sonnerie movement is properly signed, has been serviced, strikes 2 coil gongs on the quarters, and runs properly. This clock is sometimes called a "blind mans clock", because you can tell the time without seeing the clock. It will strike 1 time at 15 minutes after the hour, 2 times at 30 minutes, etc. After telling you what quarter it is, it then strikes the hours each quarter. Great in the middle of the night when you aren't sleeping. Nothing unusual about the 2 piece porcelain dial, porcelain beat scale, 3 brass weights, orthe brass pendulum bob, all just very nice. The exceptional part is the verylarge 54 inch walnut case. There are excellent carvings from top to bottom, burl walnut used in appropriate places, and the extra nice look of a "keeper".I never got around to cleaning the brass or the case. |
