Antique E Howard and Company "Regulator No. 89" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: E. Howard Clock Co. Regulator No. 89, ca 1889. A valuable old Howard that could use a little fine tuning. The 8 day movement is properly signed by Howard but is minus the original back plate. There are holes there where it should be. A fixerman rigged a back plate, or movement support, and used tabs to hold the movement to the case. The old Howard weight is marked "1", which is proper for this clock. The gold stick and brass pendulum are original to the movement. The oak case is 65" high and with the weight in, it takes 2 men and a mule to carry it. The door glass, new or old, is held in place with hot glue. A very capable cabinetmaker made the weight chute. It could pass for original. The zinc dial is 12 inches with new baked enamel. The look of the dial is great; it is just a little too brown. The wood dial ring looks great and the hands appear to be original. A lot of clock here for this minimum. Ly-American Clocks No. 439. |
