Antique Wm L Gilbert "Regulator No. 1" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: Wm. L. Gilbert and Co. Winsted, Conn., "Regulator No. 1" Ca 1851-1866. This company name was in use from 1851 to 1866, although the catalogs show the No. 1 Regulator as ca 1875. This model was made in the earlier years using the name above, and the clocks made after the factory burned in 1871 would have had labels reading "William L. Gilbert Clock Co.". The first trade catalog was published in 1875 showing 37 clock models but only 1 regulator, the Regulator No. 1. Additionally, this clock is 35 inches high and the1875 clock was 33-1/2 inches high. Otherwise everything was pretty similar, black and gold painted lower glass, same base, same dial style with seconds bit. This clock winds at 3:30 and the later model at 2:00. Door lock key looksidentical. Mahogany veneer case is almost perfect except for some tiny chipson the extreme right side of the bezel and the very bottom of the base. 8day, time only, flat weight behind the sliding partition that holds the fulllabel. The only fault I can find is the silver paint around the lower glasswould look heaps better painted gold. Ly-Gilbert No. 335. |
