Catalog Description: The Standard Electric Time Co., Springfield, Mass., Master Clock, ca 1930. Plaque on the base says, "Installed by The Electromechanical Company, Engineers and Contractors, Baltimore, Md". According to the service record and other inscriptions the clock was installed in 1930. The clock was installed in a school and rang bells and ran Secondary Clocks in the school complex. The case is 65" high, 22.75" wide, made of quartered oak, with double key door locks. It is exceptionally nice and clean, and surely hung in the principals office where the demolition squad couldn't destroy it. Movement is 2 weights, time only, and 110 volt electric wind. Mercury pendulum, 2 jars, or 2 nickel plated containers, mercury not visible but you can hear it sloshing inside. There is a cap on the end of the weight cord that screws onto the top of theweights. Unusual arrangement, at least to me. Both weights are wound on theright side and by a series of several pulleys the left side cord goes acrossthe top of the case. Nickel beat scale. Number "320" stamped on top of thecase, 2-14-30 written on the back of the case. Perfect 12" silver dial, withopen seconds dial. In the case are the "Master Clock Instructions", "ProgramClock Instructions", and the "Service Record" card showing service from 1930thru 1943. These clocks are pictured and discussed in Ly-Clocks, Volume 1, pages 71-72. |
