United States Longcase

Catalog Description:

American cherry case tall clock, broken arch top, round ball feet. Made in a simple, but popular American style, rectangle panels front and sides, narrow waist, arched dial, glass, and bonnet. The cherry case is also very poplar as it is an American wood. The bonnet could have had 1, 2, or 3 finials originally, can't be sure. Judging from the holes on the bonnet I can say that at some time there was a center finial of some kind, and at some time there were two side finials of some kind. It is possible that originally it had no finials as none of the 3 holes look alike. There is a lock in the door, 2 thin turned columns on the bonnet. Movement is English, ca about 1750's, judging by the shape of the pillars and wheel collets. Iron dial is 18.5"high and 13" wide, the paint is still good except close to the hand and windingarbors. There are 4 really nice matching brass hands. Old iron weights andpendulum but who knows if they have always been with this clock.
