Catalog Description: Seth Thomas, prestandard Group 2 pillar and scroll, ca 1816. Original strap movement with count wheel which followed the oldest movementwith rack and snail strike. These early cases have "intermediate" characteristics, or various combinations of earlier and later features of the pillar and scrollcases. Excellent, original mahogany veneer case with minimal repairs; originaldial with open escapement; great gold paint in the corners and center; bothglasses original, the lower with about 25 percent of the original paint flaking, and off center bob opening. Original hands and hollow brass finials. Originaldoor latch, all brass. No label, just a dust cover, which is normal for thisparticular model, which is earlier than the typical Seth Thomas off centerpillar and scroll. Replacement lead weights. Overall, the clock is 28" totop of scrolls; 30" to tip of center finial.
