Catalog Description: Luman Watson-Elijah Warner, Wood Movement Tall Clock, ca 1820. Mahogany case is 92" high and made by Elijah Warner, a Lexington, Kentucky clockmaker 1810-1829. He make cases only and bought movements from others. He reportedly sold his clocks only in Kentucky. The dial is signed, "Luman Watson, Cincinnati", and the movement seatboard was stamped by the maker of the movement, "H. Blakslee", sometimes spelled Blakeslee. He no doubt was working for, orwith, his brothers, Marvin and Edward, who produced thirty hour wood movements for Luman Watson and others. Seatboards of Watson tall clocks were often stampedwith initials of the case finisher. The initials on this seatboard are, "J.P." This is a beautiful case with panels of different mahogany graining. The pendulum and weights are old and we would assume have always been with this clock. We have had the movement serviced, and a small corner (1 inch) of thedial repaired and paint blended to the rest of the dial. The clock has hada front and center place in my office for several years but now it is timeto spread the joy to another collector.
