Welch Spring and Company Gale Drop Calendar Model No. 2

Catalog Description:

Welch, Spring and Co. "Gale Drop Calendar Model No. 2", ca 1874-1879. It was also called the parliament model. 8 day, time and strike spring movement is running and changing all the various functions of this multipurpose calendar. The calendar is the 1877 patent and was produced from 1874 to 1879. The dial is the 1871 patent and is a paper dial. You will always see some stain on the paper dial models, from hand oil or oil used on the movements below. Itis our contention that the hands are or look original, but they are not allidentical to those pictured for the model, in the catalogs. Both glasses areoriginal as is the good black and gold label behind the lower door. The blackwalnut case is a tad over 30 inches, dial is 12 inches. The dial tells youthe time (upper dial), moons age in days (right side dial), time of sunrise and sunset every seventh day (bottom dial), day of week (left dial) and day of month (large hand on the center arbor). The clock also shows you the number of years since leap year, and when the current year is leap year. This is one of the most collectable of the many calendar clocks. There are several pages of reference material in the front of the Ly-Welch catalog.
