Joseph Ives

Catalog Description:

Joseph Ives Wagon Spring Pillar and Scroll Clock, ca 1817. This was a very unusual and distinct 30 hour wood works movement, unique to Ives, ingood condition. The movement with large rollers is one of only 5 know toexist today. There are large wooden drums (rollers) between the springs andmovement. The clock is totally restored and has new turned wooden finials correctly reproduced. Great mirror finish to case, but in no way original. The movement, wagon springs, and rollers are all in great shape, as is the dial except for some stretch marks. Both glasses are original to the case, but the lower was repainted in the case door. It is also, unfortunately, cracked, but cleanly so with no glass loss. There are four turned wooden feet, insteadof the usual skirt and feet of earlier pillar and scroll clocks. Verysmall size case at 25.5" tall. No label, but none of the 5 known examples have them. Excellent, original ivory door escutcheon.
