EN Welch

Catalog Description:

C.1858, "E. N. Welch at the old stand late J. C. Brown", Forestville, CT. This is indeed a Welch clock and has a nice label inside. The rippled molding rosewood case, unmistakably Atkins, was probably purchased by Welch from the stock of the Atkins Clock Manufacturing Co. went they went bankrupt in 1857. The case is in good condition with a small veneer loss along the back edge. The movement and hands are Welch and the deep case was originally blocked forward so that Welch's movement would fit properly. The lower door tablet is original. The period dial retains original paint, and fits the case properly; extra holes indicate it may have been changed long ago; looks FINE. The lower door knob is replaced. The back of the case has a large advertising label which is about 80% intact showing the clock was sold by Shaw's Clock Store, No. 42 Westminster St., Providence, RI. A rare clock; clean and ready to enjoy. Height 25 inches
