Antique E Howard and Company "Watchman\'s Clock" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: C.1895, E. Howard and Co., Boston, Watchman's Clock, walnut, weight driven, and except for the missing case bottom and recorders, in very good original condition. The two spring driven, electro mechanical movements are intact, and the two wooden supports for the graph devices are there (tied in top of case), but the two pencil/pen devices and recording mechanisms are lacking. This particular clock came from a local mill, THE TROY BLANKET MILL of Troy, NH, which went out of business last year (2002), after having made blankets for the U.S. Army since the civil war. When the clock was ordered, the purchasing agent probably picked the case style from a large catalog of custom case designs that the Howard salesman had with him. The workmanship and case hardware are definitely from the Howard cabinet shop. A tapered bottom should not be too difficult to make. Uses a unique weight driven Howard movement that has a 26" pendulum from minute shaft to bob center. Dial 10", minor touch-up around attaching holes. Height as shown 52 inches |
