Chauncey Jerome

Catalog Description:

C.1850, Chauncey Jerome, New Haven, CT, 30-hour fusee-spring movement mantel clock in an unusual paper mache and ebonized wood case. The signed movement is intact and even has complete Geneva stops. The hands are original and the metal dial has original paint, though there is a dent, a repair around the center hole and the numerals have been strengthened. These could all be improved. The case is complete with piece and piece of wood about 6 inches long and 3/8" wide missing from the rounded top of the case near the back. The mother-of-pearl on the decorative front is all present, though much of the gilt decoration is worn away. The base of the case was plain originally, but a gilt decoration has been added (there is no hole beneath, so there was never a small bezel and glass). The cast brass dial bezel is complete, though it needs a flat glass. Height 14 inches
