Antique Clocks Wood Identification Guide
Common Woods
These are some of the woods you will most likely encounter used in antique clock case construction and decoration. Click on the name or image to see a larger sample and more description.
Please note that colors are approximate and will vary in appearance when viewed on different monitors. Also bear in mind that the appearance of natural wood can be changed by stains or other finishes. If possible, for best comparison, try to find a piece of wood that has been left unfinished on your clock. Besides coloration, compare the porosity and pattern of the grains.
