Birge and Fuller was a clockmaking partnership between John Birge and Thomas Franklin Fuller, operating in Bristol, Connecticut from approximately 1844 to 1848. The firm is best known for its steeple and “steeple-on-steeple” mantel clocks powered by an unusual wagon-spring movement, an alternative to the more common weight or coil-spring designs of the period.
Birge and Fuller clocks are relatively scarce today and are sought after by collectors for their distinctive wagon-spring mechanisms and well-proportioned Gothic-style cases, representing a brief but notable chapter in the rapid evolution of Connecticut shelf clock design during the 1840s.
