Beals, J.J.

J.J. Beals operated as a clock retailer and dealer in Boston, Massachusetts during the 19th century. Like many retailers of the period, Beals sold clocks under his own name or store label even though the movements and cases were typically manufactured by established Connecticut firms such as Seth Thomas, Waterbury, or Ansonia.

Clocks bearing the Beals name are therefore most useful for dating and provenance research as evidence of where and through whom a clock was originally sold, rather than as an indicator of who actually built the movement.
