Transitional Viennese Regulator, ca. 1870.
An impressive 3-weight Grande Sonnerie Vienna signed "W : Popper
in Wien" on the two-part porcelain dial.
The hardwood (walnut?) case is 59 inches long with ¾ columns on each side of the door,
a two-piece crest, and faux burl insets.
The three glasses do not look old.
The clock is running and striking in
the grand sonnerie style - once, twice, thrice, and four times on a wire gong on each quarter hour, each time followed by a strike
on a second gong of a different tone to count the hours.
So, it tells you the minutes first, and then the hour.
