Antique American Clocks
Boardman & Wells steeple fusee, 1832-1843.
A 21-inch sharp gothic with walnut veneer in fine
condition, no chips to be found; metal escutcheon with key and working latch.
Both glasses are old/original, the lower mirror
with scratches.
The metal dial has been repainted and signed C. Boardman, but the green label inside lists Boardman and Wells
as the manufacturers; the 30-hour time-and-strike fusee movement is signed C Boardman.
It is possible that this clock was made/marketed
by Boardman after B&W split up in 1843.
B&W obtained a patent in 1847 for this fusee movement in which the springs are
mounted behind the fusees ("reversed fuzee").
Note that the minute hand is a repaired replacement, and the hour hand is incorrect.
The clock is running but the strike is stuck.
The label is oil-stained and partly unreadable, with losses.
Nonetheless,
a nice example of this model.
