Rodney Brace false hollow-column shelf clock, ca. 1830.
A beautiful 33-inch
mahogany-veneered case with flame mahogany on the lower door and curly birch columns and top-board; the finish is newer.
dial glass is old, as is the mirror, but neither is likely original based on the putty; there is a key for the two working door latches.
The wooden dial board is clean and without losses; the hands are period if not original.
The 30-hour wooden movement has an
intact alarm (not tested); it is running but the click-stop for the strike side is missing or not working, and the strike cannot be
There are two 5.5-inch round weights, 4.5 lb each, and a small alarm weight.
The label, darkened but readable,
is from when Brace was working in North Bridgeport MA.
Brace made a number of clocks in this style; this is as nice an example
as you are likely to find.
This exact clock sold at RO Schmitt's in 2015 for $1400.
