Antique American Clocks
R.A. Braithwaite Scottish drum-head tall case, ca. 1830.
A beautiful 81-inch mahogany case with a
fine furniture finish, a crack or two but no loss of veneer, and a carved scroll crest and shoulder.
The waist door is bowed,
the dial glass convex, the painted convex metal dial signed R.A. Braithwaite, possibly a jeweler as I cannot find information on Brathwaite
as a clockmaker; it appears to have been repainted.
The dial is stamped Finimore & Sons on the back.
The gold bezel
inside the dial door is painted wood and may not be original to the clock; the door is hinged at the top.
The 8-day, time-only
brass plate movement is driven by a single compounded weight and regulated by a heavy pendulum bob; it is running.

Mike Petrillo
has informed me that this clock is not all original; while the case is correct, the movement is a replacement, including the dial,
weights, and pendulum.  Well, it still looks darn nice!
