Antique American Clocks
J.C. Brown "shelf acorn", 1847-1850.
A 24.25-inch case with a beautiful, lacquered finish
over rosewood veneer.
Both glasses are old but both may be replacements based on the putty holding them in place; the lower
glass is cracked but stabilized and has an old decalcomania image of the Merchants' Exchange in Philadelphia.
The 8-day time-and-strike
remote fusee movement is signed "Forestville M.F.G. Co."; it is unwilling to run for more than 30 seconds.
It does strike.
There is a good card label with J.C. Brown's name inside.
Harris sold one in May for $3700, and Schmidt's Antiques sold one
in April for $3750.
$3000-$4000.
