English table clock, ca. 1900?
A large and impressive oak architectural case, 25.5 inches high by 18 inches
wide, 12 inches deep with a broken pediment top, half-columns on each side, pierced fretwork on the sides and back that is backed
with newer blue fabric, and an ornately decorated brass dial with a silvered chapter ring and matte center.
Note that the minute
hand is incorrect; a replacement can likely be found or purchased from supply houses.
There are sub-dials for 'chime-silent',
'fast-slow', and two different chimes, Whittington and Westminster.
The large, 3-train fusee movement is unsigned, chimes on
eight bells at the top and strikes the hours on a large gong.
The movement is running and chiming on cue, but I cannot get the
strike to participate; it is fully wound.
The bell chimes are quite nice.
The key that comes with this clock is big enough
to choke a horse; there is also a door key and two working locks.
I found several similar examples on the Antique Clocks Price
Guide, with the most recent sale at Schmitt's in May of 2018 for $1600.
