Antique American Clocks
Forestville Mfg. Co. stenciled cottage, 1842-1849.
A JC Brown production, 15 inches tall
with rosewood veneer in excellent condition, gilt stenciling on the front, and two period/original glasses.
The stenciling has
suffered considerable losses, as is typical.
The contoured metal dial was either repainted a long time ago or has been antiqued;
I favor the former (note chipping).
The hands are replacements.
The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed Forestville
Mfg, Bristol, and is running and striking on a wire gong.
There is a label inside, but the manufacturer's name is cut off at
the bottom.
The glasses, and in particular the bird lower glass provide a lot of the value here.
