At the bottom of the worn label are the
names J. C. Brown, S. B. Smith, and C. Goodrich, allowing us to date this 30-inch OG clock to the mid-1840's.
The mahogany veneer
is in excellent condition with just a few chips along the bottom and the lower glass is original and very colorful.
things go downhill.
The wooden dial is a disaster, and touched up poorly to boot; note, however, that Forestville Manufacturing
Co is printed on the dial just below the mainstem.
The hands are period and the dial glass is very old.
The signed brass
movement could not be tested because the time-side weight cord was broken; note the solid escape wheel on the interesting lyre-shaped
It comes with one appropriate weight and one that is not appropriate for anything.
The door handle is hand-made.
The tablet, movement, and the case make this clock of value.
