Antique American Clocks
Wm. Gilbert Clock Co. "Curfew", 1909.
A long-popular model with a faux marble finish and a
bell in an archway on top; the clock strikes the bell with a nice clear sound on the hours and half-hours.
The case is wood,
with incised gilt lines on the front.
This one has a pierced brass dial that outlines cartouche-style numerals on a paper dial.
There is an old flat glass in the bezel.
The 8-day time-and-strike, signed movement is running and striking.
shows its age (110 years) with some crackling to the finish, but would clean and polish up nicely.
Curfews continue to sell
for about $150 on eBay.
