Antique American Clocks
G.A. Jones & Co. parlor clock, 1864-1874.
Jones worked with H.J. Davies during this period; Davies
designed many of the clocks offered.
This clock is not shown in the G.A. Jones catalog reprint I have (Parts, #929) and there
is no label.
However, Horton's Antique Clocks sold this clock in 2019, where it was described as a Jones clock (per consignor).
The movement is stamped E.N. Welch, and it has a Welch pendulum.
The walnut case is 24.5 inches tall with an old finish; the
finials may or may not be original, and one drop finial at the top left is a mismatch.
Note the composite figurehead and rondels
on the side pieces.
The door glass is likely original, as are the very badly yellowed dial and hands.
As noted, the 8-day,
time-and-strike movement was made by Welch.
It runs a bit and strikes hesitantly and needs cleaning.
I can find no sales
records that match this clock.
