Antique American Clocks
Spencer & Wooster & Co. shelf clock, 1840-1843.
This 33.5-inch mahogany
case holds an 8-day "Salem Bridge" brass movement.
There are veneered full columns with carved capitals and two original glasses;
I think the building in the upper tablet has been retouched and rebacked, and the lower tablet has a wood backboard and was not inspected.
The dial glass is also original but has some newer glazing; the wooden dial is clean and the hands are correct.
The narrow weights
are compounded on wooden pulleys; there is a decent label inside.
The clock is running and striking.
AAC sold two similar
Salem Bridge clocks last July for $600 and $750.
