Antique American Clocks
Silas B. Terry cottage alarm, 1854-1861.
This unimposing little (11.25 inch) cottage clock
is pictured in Robert W.D. Ball's book
American Shelf and Wall Clocks
on page 194.
Its manufacture is attributed to Silas B.
Terry either shortly before, or during the time he was General Manager for the Gilbert Clock Co.
Notable on this clock (isn't
something always notable with SB Terry?) is the dual ladder, time and alarm movement.
This movement is discussed in the December

The movement is not signed, and there is no label in the clock.

The dial is wood, and possibly with the original paint.
The hands are period.
The 30-hour movement is
running vigorously; I did not test the alarm.
