Description

Ansonia “Para” office clock, ca. 1904. I’m not sure why this was a member of a group of wall clocks (“Office Clocks”) that includes several Queens (Mary, Isabella, Mab), as they all had a strike train (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches, page 191). I’m also not sure why it wasn’t named after a queen. The black walnut case is 39 inches long with an old but clear finish. All the finials (7) are correct. The door glass is period/original, the dial old paper with wear, but bears the Ansonia name and logo. The hands are as shown in the catalog illustration. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on the cathedral gong. A proper pendulum bob and no label. Nothing to complain about here. This clock appears to be very rare, as there are no listings on LiveAuctioneers or Antique Clocks Price Guide. The Ansonia “Queens” generally sell for around $300, so let’s start at that. $300-$600.
