Description

Unknown iron-front, ca. 1850. A 20.5-inch iron-front with MOP in the middle section and a painted scene, also with MOP. It is unclear to me what the scene depicts, other than a building and two viewers, one in a top-hat; there is a US flag on top of the building. The metal dial has been repainted, the hands are period, the dial glass replaced and bezel polished, the low glass is convex. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, running and striking on a wire gong. There is no label and no evidence of a label, inside or out. A nice-looking example with minimum loss to the gilt filagree decoration. $150-$250.
